Hi, I'm Jonathon
I make furniture in the vernacular style in Edmond, OK. My designs are guided by artisan geometry, rooted in whole number ratios and proportions to create a piece that is visually harmonious and balanced. I strive for simple forms that have a timeless look and quiet beauty, meant to enhance your space without overpowering it. I've built a wide variety of casework and tables, but my current favorites are vernacular stick chairs.
Each piece is built by hand, by me, out of solid wood using time tested joinery to ensure your investment lasts. Much of the joinery is hand cut (such as dovetails) and parts are fitted or shaped by hand, so the human element is perceptible in my work. My pieces are also constructed with repairability in mind. All of my joinery is assembled with hide glue, meaning in 100 years the pieces can be easily repaired, if needed.
I have 2 different finishes I apply to pieces, and both are made from scratch: soft wax and milk paint. The soft wax is easy to apply and repair, non toxic, and gets better with age (in my opinion). If you would prefer to add some color to your home, painted furniture is an excellent way to go. I make milk paint using a traditional recipe. There are a variety of pigments I can use, and even blend, to deliver your desired color. The paint is made from simple ingredients, non toxic, hard wearing, and contains no plastics. With time and use, both of these finishes will show signs of wear, developing a patina that is wholly unique to you and your household, highlighting it's use by you and your loved ones. Other finishes are available upon request.
